Two women charged with abusing animals; eight cats and dogs seized

PORT EWEN – Two women have been charged with four counts each of failure to provide proper sustenance to animals after eight cats and dogs were seized.

The Ulster County SPCA charged Marge Coswell, 66, and Evelyn Ellsworth, 63, of 353 Broadway in Port Ewen with the misdemeanor charges.

SPCA investigators seized four dogs and four cats in poor condition after they were found living amongst garbage and debris.

Veterinary examinations revealed the animals were suffering from emaciation and dehydration. They were brought to the SPCA shelter in Kingston pending judicial review of the case.
