Groups partner to protect farmland near Olana

GREENPORT – The Open Space Institute and Scenic Hudson have partnered to protect a 95 acre farm adjacent to the Olana State Historic Site in Greenport.

The two groups acquired a conservation easement on Pleroma Farm, said Scenic Hudson Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the Scenic Hudson Land Trust Steven Rosenberg.

“The property owner continues to own the land and they can mortgage it and sell it and lease it; what they can’t do is subdivide and develop it, but they were compensated for that and the funding came from Scenic Hudson and the Open Space Institute and in addition, the Olana Partnership and the Omega Institute contributed some of the funding,” Rosenberg said.

The total easement purchase price of the transaction was not disclosed.
