Former bank president jumps off Newburgh-Beacon Bridge; two others jump from TZ Bridge

MID-HUDSON – Within minutes of each other, three people jumped from two bridges in the Mid-Hudson Valley Tuesday morning. Two died.
The incidents occurred around 10 a.m.

State Police in Wappinger said a man, identified as William Myer, 65, of Middletown, drove onto the westbound Newburgh-Beacon Bridge span, got out of his car and jumped from the Dutchess County side. His body was recovered around 1 p.m. Myers, who in recent years owned a Chester travel agency, founded the former Community Bank of Orange, now Greater Hudson Bank, and before that was president of the former Middletown Savings Bank.

In the other incident on Tuesday, State Police said a man and woman jumped off the Tappan Zee Bridge together, naked. The 29-year-old woman died; the 44-year-old man survived. Both were recovered from the river.

Police said both got out of the same car. Their names have not been released pending notification of relatives.
