Mixed bag in 2010 home sales

MID-HUDSON/CATSKILLS – The sales of existing single-family homes in the region in 2010 reflected continued ups and downs in the market.  While sales rose in the counties of Columbia, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester, they continued to decline in Dutchess, Greene, Orange and Sullivan counties.

The largest growth was in Westchester County where home sales rose by almost 20 percent. The lowest growth was 1.2 percent in Rockland County.

The highest decline was registered in Orange County, at almost 14 percent, while the smallest decline was in Sullivan County at over seven percent.

The lowest median selling price of a home in 2010 was in Sullivan County at $125,000. The highest was in Westchester County at $630,000.

Analysts continue to say that until jobs increase, home sales will not show a steady improvement month over month.
