Fatal accident in Pawling

PAWLING – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred just after 8 a.m. Friday in the Village of Pawling.

Lorraine Gagliardi, 60, of Dover Plains, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed Gagliardi was driving a 2002 Mini Cooper south on Route 22 when the car ran off the road, struck a guard rail, overturned and struck a road sign before coming to rest.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation; however, at this time, police said driver inattention is thought to be a possible factor.

The sheriff’s office would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed part or all of the accident and anyone with information is asked to call 845-486-3800.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the State Police, Pawling Fire Department and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
