Bernardo to stay on Independence line

KINGSTON – A challenge to Ulster County Legislator Terry Bernardo’s Independence Party petitions has been dismissed, meaning the District 21 legislator will appear on that line in the November election. Challenger Manuela Michailescu’s husband, Jon Dogar-Marinesco, sued in an attempt to have Bernardo’s petitions tossed, but the court ruled he filed too late.

While Bernardo is the endorsed Republican candidate as well, she will face a challenge in a September primary from Michailescu.

There will be no candidate on the Conservative line. Bernardo’s petitions were invalidated based on a technicality and an opportunity to ballot, which could have meant a write-in challenge by Michailescu, was also ruled invalid.

There is no Democratic candidate running for the district seat.
