NAPANOCH – Former state comptroller Alan Hevesi, who pled guilty last October to a felony for his involvement in a pay-to-play kickback scheme while running the comptroller’s office, was sentenced Friday to one to four years in state prison and he was immediately sent to Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch.

Hevesi, 72, is eligible for early release on April 14, 2012 with a parole hearing date of October 2011. He faces a conditional release date of December 14, 2013 with a maximum release date of April 14, 2015.

The disgraced former state official pled guilty to a felony charge of receiving reward for official misconduct, a felony, for receiving nearly $1 million in gifts in exchange for improperly favoring and approving $250 million in pension fund investments in private equity fund Markstone Capital Partners, L.P.

This was the second sentencing stemming from the investigation by the attorney general’s office into corruption in the comptroller’s office and state pension fund. Last month, Hevesi’s former political advisor, Henry Morris, received the maximum sentence allowable by law, one to four years in prison, after pleading guilty to a felony charge for his role in the pay-to-play scheme.
