Molinaro makes county exec candidacy official

Molinaro makes his announcement to a room full of supporters

POUGHKEEPSIE – Assemblyman Marc Molinaro is now officially a candidate in the 2011 race for Dutchess County executive.

His announcement came Thursday afternoon at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie where he told a crowd of over 150 supporters that he plans on building upon the foundation established by current County Executive William Steinhaus while bringing “mature and compassionate leadership” to Dutchess County.

Republican Molinaro, a former county legislator, said he plans on reaching out across the broad spectrum of citizens in the county and letting them know that they have a role in making decisions.

“This is your government, these are your tax dollars, and ultimately we’re going to empower the people of Dutchess County to really guide us into the future,” he stated.

He also spoke passionately about cost-effective and efficient management of tax payer dollars.

“Every dollar gets scrutinized because it is the taxpayers’ money so this is all about cutting spending, cutting taxes, and efficiently delivering services to the people of Dutchess County,” he said.

Molinaro said taxpayers are overburdened, government resources are at an all-time low, and people are out of jobs, so the last thing the county can afford is to have its tax dollars go to waste.

Democrat Daniel French, currently Town of Beekman supervisor, will challenge Molinaro in the fall election.
