New Ulster County Veterans Affairs director named

KINGSTON – With the retirement of Ulster County Veterans Services Agency Director Terry Breitenstein, County Executive Michael Hein has appointed Steven Massee to head the agency.

Massee, a naval commander with the Reserves, is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran.

Hein said he is confident in the job that Massee will do for the county’s vets.

“To me there is nothing more important as a county government than to be able to provide assistance for our veterans as they access what could sometimes be a highly bureaucratic nightmare at the Veterans’ Administration; in addition to that, making sure that our veterans are services in any way they interface with county government as well,” Hein said, Wednesday.

Massee, a West Hurley resident, is a highly decorated officer having been awarded the Bronze Star, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Award, Navy Achievement Medal and a number of others.
