COLD SPRING – Congressman John Hall is not afraid of the Tea Party. The Democrat appeared in Cold Spring on Sunday and spoke to some 55 supporters, both from his congressional district and across the state. Hall spoke of his continuing efforts to bring money into to New York which is a “donor state, we pay more taxes than we get back.” Despite the recent victories of Tea Party candidates and the fervor surrounding it, Hall is not worried. “The Tea Partiers have won a lot of Republican primaries. They haven’t won any General Elections yet. We’ll see what happens when we come to the General Elections, but people are talking about motivation, the enthusiasm gap,” he said. “I think what you see today is a lot of enthusiasm from people that want to help this democratic member of the House of Representatives get re-elected,” Hall said. Republican Nan Hayworth, who is running against Hall in New York’s 19th Congressional District, is one of those Tea Party candidates that won in the primaries. “Are you going to go to Congress and fight to bring our tax dollars home, to do projects that hire people here and fix our bridges and fix our schools and fix our infrastructure here as a tangible asset, jobs that can’t be outsourced. Or are you, as my opponent has promised in writing, not even going to ask for that money,” Hall said. The show of support was part of a canvassing operation for Organizing for America, which has attempted to boost both awareness of candidates and voter registration.
