| Medical device company to set up HQ in Dutchess County |
|
POUGHKEEPSIE – Life Medical Technologies, a startup company that will produce and market a breast disease detection device, will locate its headquarters and operations at the Hudson Valley Research Park in East Fishkill. The company expects to create 250 jobs over the next three years. It plans on making a significant investment in construction work, equipment and materials and other investments at the IBM East Fishkill Building 320 at the campus. Production of the BreastCare DTS ® patented device used along with mammography and other procedures for the detection of breast disease, including cancer, are expected to be in production by early 2011. County Executive William Steinhaus called location of the company in the county “an important win for ‘Team Dutchess’ and the Dutchess County business community. “Medical devices and health care are obviously an important part of the national economy and we are now in a position where we have a company that is going to be locating here and is going to be producing these medical devices and it’s a new niche for us and we are hopeful that we can create a multiplier off of it,” he said. Steinhaus and Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation President John MacEnroe attributed the deal to IBM and Central Hudson. “IBM understands the value of filling available manufacturing space with companies that produce cutting edge products like the BreastCare DTS ®,” Steinhaus said. Central Hudson’s role in solidifying the location was its energy-related incentives, said MacEnroe. The state will also provide incentives for Life Medical Technologies to locate in East Fishkill. State Senator Stephen Saland said the new jobs will “fit particularly well with the skilled workforce in our area and will be an economic boon.” Assemblyman Marc Molinaro hopes this development is “a sign of continued success and job growth in our region.” “The quality of life in the area including the talented people, location, and collaborative spirit is exactly what we need to produce this important new tool to fight breast cancer throughout the world,” said Company CEO Carol Fitzgerald.
