Dad had kids, 39 pounds of pot in his car

Hylton

EASTCHESTER – A New Jersey dad who was driving with his two small children in the car was arrested by Westchester County Police on Friday night after he was found in possession of more than 39 pounds of marijuana.

Barringto Hylton, 30, of Irvington, N.J., was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the first degree, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, Westchester County Police Officer Emil Garcia stopped a 2010 Dodge Avenger for a traffic violation on the eastbound Cross County Parkway near New Rochelle Road in Eastchester. When Garcia approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

County Police Officer Dave Sanchez and his narcotics detection canine Sal responded to the scene and Sal indicated the presence of marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the trunk revealed two large bundles containing a total of 39 ½ pounds of marijuana.

Hylton’s children – a two-year-old boy and four-year-old girl – were taken to county police headquarters in Hawthorne and were subsequently turned over to other family members.
