Teenage girl killed by train

NANUET – A Tuxedo girl was killed Saturday evening as she walked along Metro-North Railroad tracks in Nanuet.

Arianna Wellen, 14, and a 15-year-old boy, were walking along the Pascack Valley line tracks when the accident happened.   The boy was not physically injured, but was treated at a hospital for shock.

“This was an elevated part of the track that goes over the New York State Thruway,” railroad spokesman Daniel Brucker said.

The teens apparently heard the train and tried to get out of the way. The boy escaped but the girl was struck and killed.

The train was en route from Hoboken, NJ to Spring Valley. Metro-North trains on the west side of the Hudson are operated for Metro-North by NJ Transit.
