Sullivan County libraries receive state funding

ALBANY – Four libraries in Sullivan County have been awarded over $190,000 in public library construction grants. The grant funds are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2009 State Budget.

“These grants will enable these libraries to complete vital projects to better serve the public,” said Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther. “Libraries are important centers for community life and have become even more essential during these difficult economic times as more and more people use libraries for job searches, resume writing, and borrowing books, music and movies.”

The following libraries are receiving grants:

  • Daniel Pierce Library,  $178,512, substantial renovation of 1981 addition; construction of new 3,000 square foot connector between original building and 1981 addition; purchase of three new circulation terminals, 18 workstations, and supporting networking equipment.
  • Livingston Manor Free, $2,500, installation of new oil tank; removal of three deteriorated tanks from basement and ground.
  • Sunshine Hall Free Library, $2,500, construction of new parking lot in front of building.
  • Western Sullivan Public Library - Tusten-Cochecton Branch, $6,582, replacement of boiler; installation of the new hot water heater.
