Single-family home sales soar in the region

MID-HUDSON – Sales of single-family homes in the Hudson Valley rose dramatically in January when compared to the same month in 2009, the New York State Association of Realtors reported Wednesday.

The increase, which was 11 percent statewide, is a good sign for the “the continued recovery of our housing market into 2010,” said Association CEO Duncan Mackenzie.

The highest increase in the Hudson Valley in January was in Westchester County, with a 108 percent increase. In Rockland County, there was no change from the previous year’s level.

The median sales price of an existing single-family home in January compared to January 2009 increased in Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Rockland and Westchester, but declined in Orange, Putnam and Sullivan counties.
