Riverfront land in Tivoli preserved

TIVOLI – The Village of Tivoli, with the aid of a $40,000 grant from environmental group Scenic Hudson, has purchased a piece of Hudson River shoreline which will now make the village accessible to the river once again.

The access will allow village residents to get on the waterfront side of the CSX rail tracks.

State Senator Stephen Saland (R-Poughkeepsie) was on hand to celebrate the acquisition.

“Tivoli, which was born of and by and at the river and then disconnect by the rail line, once again is on the river,” he said. “It’s wonderful for Tivoli, it’s wonderful for the county; it’s wonderful for the region.”

Assemblyman Marc Molinaro was also at a celebration on Wednesday.

“This really, really makes whole the village that was for so long a riverfront port and always a riverfront community,” he said.

“We have finally accomplished this important goal,” said Mayor Thomas Cordier. Efforts to secure the riverfront property have been ongoing for some two decades.
