| June home sales skyrocket |
|
GOSHEN – The closed sales of single-family homes in Rockland County rose by 94 percent in June as compared to the same month last year, according to the Greater Hudson Valley Multiple Listing Service. The increase in Orange County was 56 percent. Despite that, there isn’t a clear cut sign yet that the local economy is starting to turn around, said Orange County Board of Realtors Executive Director Ann Garti. “We still had some price erosion and even though we feel that the market is very, very attractive at this point, the fact remains that the job market is not and the unemployment figures are not good and in my judgment, that is the biggest impact on the housing market,” she said. Home buyers had until the end of June to close on homes that went to contract before the end of April when a federal tax credit expired. Condominium sales, meanwhile, rose in June 123 percent in Rockland County and by 44 percent in Orange County. |
