Mount Vernon guilty in January 2009 murder

WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man was convicted in Westchester County Court of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree in connection with the killing of Paul Laing.

Vetal Bonhomme, 21, and the victim were involved in a verbal dispute in Mount Vernon on January 6, 2009.

Following the argument, Bonhomme shot Laing three times at close range with a .9 mm handgun.  Laing died a short time later at a local hospital.

Later that month, Bonhomme was arrested inside a store in Mount Vernon. The murder weapon was recovered.

Bonhomme faces a minimum of 15 years to life and a maximum of 25 years to life in prison when sentenced in March.
