| Orange County grand juror charged with leaking secret information |
|
GOSHEN – A Monroe woman has been charged by the state attorney general’s office with leaking secret grand jury testimony related to an investigation into major cocaine, marijuana and prescription medication distribution networks. The investigation, dubbed Operation Burning Plant, led to the arrests of 44 people and the confiscation of drugs. Jill Giunta, 22, allegedly provided information to a target of the grand jury investigation, who she knew because they both worked at Woodbury Common Factory Outlet Mall in Central Valley. While she served on the grand jury from September to November 2009, she disclosed to the target, which was under investigation the fact that phones were being tapped, and the physical description of a witness who had provided testimony. Giunta is charged with unlawful grand jury disclosure, a felony, and obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor. If found guilty, she faces up to four years in prison. During the investigation, drugs were seized, including seven ounces of cocaine with a street value of $10,000; 27 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $172,000; 62 Vicodin pills and approximately $83,000 in cash.
