Orange County will use federal green grant for energy audits

Hall, center, explains the grant

GOSHEN – Orange County will spend a $3.5 million federal stimulus grant on energy audits and upgrades to 10 of its major government buildings and officials Friday said that process is underway with energy audits.

County representatives gathered with Congressman John Hall at the Valley View Center, the county’s nursing home, in Goshen, Friday, to outline the program.  Hall said the grant is money well spent.

“It will save the county money by identifying efficiency improvements that can be made, by lowering the overall electric bill for the county, and also translate directly into reduced property taxes,” he said.

County Legislature Chairman Michael Pillmeier said the county learned of the grant approval on December 24, which made it a great Christmas present.
