Parolee charged with stealing car

WALDEN – Village Police in Walden have charged a parolee with stealing a vehicle from 42 Ulster Avenue.

While the owner of the SUV was at the police station filing a report around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, Newburgh City Police recovered the vehicle, crashed and abandoned in a parking lot on North Street.

Walden Police began talking with anyone who had access to the keys. Jonathan Powell, 30, of the same address, confessed to stealing and crashing the car, police said.

Powell was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree.  He was remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
