MONTGOMERY – A Walden man has been charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, a felony, after he allegedly fired over 100 rounds from weapons at his home at 100 Plains Road, Montgomery Town Police said. Police were called to the scene at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day and saw a man, later identified as Benjamin Puchalski, 41, the resident there, shooting a semi-automatic assault rifle from the dining room window. Three youths, ages 10, 15 and 16, were in the home; two are his sons and one was a visitor. They attempted to convince him to leave the home unarmed. After a period of time, Puchalski placed the rifle down and came out. He was highly intoxicated and disregarded instructions of the police when he walked onto the porch. At home point, he attempted to go back inside, and was physically subdued by police and resisted arrest until handcuffed. Officers seized several firearms and located 122 spent casings of various calibers on the floor of the residence. Puchalski was charged reckless endangerment in the first degree, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He was arraigned and committed to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. |
