Stillwaggon

NEWBURGH – Elbert “Al” Stillwaggon came to virtually every Pearl Harbor Day service on the Newburgh waterfront for years and years. He was at the last one, on December 7, 2009.                   Stillwaggon died on Saturday, February 6 at age 92.

He would attend in his World War II uniform and be interviewed about his experiences and thoughts about “The day that lived in infamy.”

“Al was a model for all Americans, from his days as a youth in Scouting to his days as a Pearl Harbor survivor to the days of his retirement with his dedication to his community and his religion,” said State Senator William Larkin of Cornwall-on-Hudson, a retired Army lieutenant colonel.

Funeral services for Stillwaggon will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 11 at the Leptondale Bible Church, 1771 Route 300 in the Town of Newburgh.
