MID-HUDSON – With the latest snowstorm expected to dump about eight inches on the region, municipalities are preparing for the worst.

The City of Peekskill announced a winter parking weather alert in effect from 8 p.m., February 9 through 8.m., February 12, tentatively.

All parking on non-alternate side streets is prohibited. Parking will be prohibited where alternate side of the street parking is permitted.

In Newburgh, Acting City Manager Richard Herbek has declared a snow emergency effective 6 p.m. Tuesday. During a snow emergency, alternative side of the street parking regulations are in effect.

Mayor Phil Amicone is declaring a state of emergency, effective at 12 a.m., Wednesday, February 10, in the City of Yonkers in preparation for snow accumulations expected to begin Wednesday morning and continue through the night. The state of emergency will allow personnel redeployments to deal with the weather situation.

A state of emergency has been declared for the City of Mount Vernon beginning at midnight until further notice in light of the looming snow storm.

Similarly, other communities have snow emergency regulations.

And, municipalities are filling up their snow plow trucks with sand and salt in preparation for a storm that is expected to hit after midnight Wednesday morning.

Wednesday February 10, Metro-North will operate a reduced morning peak schedule in anticipation of a 25 percent reduction in ridership. Some trains will be combined and others will be eliminated.

Beginning at noon and through 4 p.m., the railroad will be adding outbound "getaway" service, similar to what is done on the day before a holiday.

After 5 p.m., they will operate a reduced schedule with combinations and eliminated trains.

Municipal meetings are also being cancelled. The state of the county address, which was supposed to lead off the monthly meeting of the Ulster County Legislature Wednesday evening, was rescheduled, along with the meeting, to February 16.
