Ulster Jail inmate charged with possessing homemade knife

KINGSTON – The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office has charged an inmate at the Ulster County Jail with possession dangerous contraband.

Michael Farrington, 26, of 32 Rivera Trail in Plattekill was being held at the jail on unrelated charges when authorities on Saturday found him to be in possession of a toothbrush sharpened into a homemade knife, known as a shive.

Farrington was taken out of the jail and arraigned in Town of Ulster Court. He was later returned in lieu of $1,000 cash bail of $2,000 bond on the new charge.
