Boy Scouts mark 100th anniversary

NEWBURGH – The Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council Monday marked the 100th anniversary of the Scouts with a pledge to add 10,000 more hours of service in their communities during the year-long celebration of milestone.

Hudson Valley Boy Scouts Chief Operating Officer Diego Aviles said Scouting is rededicating itself to service.

“As America gets back to the character and values, I think it is the scouting playbook of trustworthy, loyal are the words to live by are more important than ever,” he said. Scouting was chartered in America in February 8, 1910. To mark the anniversary, Aviles said they are asking Scouts and Scout leaders to perform an act of service, not for a patch, but “at the end, a true essence of being a Scout.”

The Hudson Valley Council is marking the anniversary with two signature events – a “CamporAll” from May 14-16 at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck and a 100th Anniversary Event at West point on October 10.

The Hudson Valley Council serves over 8,600 young people in Dutchess, Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties in New York and Pike County in Pennslyvania.
