Mom claims bus driver manhandled her kids

NEWBURGH – City and school district officials in Newburgh are investigating allegations by a Newburgh woman that a bus driver put his hands on two of her three children as they rode his bus earlier in the week.

Katia West maintains the driver struck her seven-year-old daughter in the face and pushed her 10-year-old son to the floor of the bus on Wednesday after he pulled it over.

Police and school district officials confirm they are looking into the matter and West has filed an incident with city police.

“I am getting help from some officers that are trying to investigate this, but I am trying to get this bus driver off the bus, at least until the investigation is finished so that nobody else’s children will be put in danger,” she said.

According to the incident report filed with Newburgh City Police, the alleged abuse occurred on the way home from the Gidney Avenue Magnet School on Wednesday, February 3.
