New Middletown police chief to be sworn in

Bethencourt

MIDDLETOWN –Middletown’s new police chief, Ramon Bethencourt, will take the oath of office, Monday evening, and become the first African-American Police chief in the history of Orange County.

“Lt. Bethencourt has earned this position of trust based upon his experience and leadership that he has demonstrated in his 20 years of police service,” Mayor Joseph DeStefano said.

He has been acting chief since former Chief Matthew Byrne retired.
