Sex offender charged with failing to register Internet accounts

LIBERTY – A Village of Liberty man, who reopened Facebook and MySpace accounts in the Internet, has been arrested by Village of Liberty Police for failure to register and verify, as a felony.

Christopher Atkins, 23, was arrested on Friday after police allege he reopened the two Internet accounts and failed to notify the state Department of Criminal Justice through the local police. Under state law, registered sex offenders must register any Internet accounts they open.

Atkins was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail pending a future court appearance.
