| Straightening out the solid waste fees is taking time |
|
MONTICELLO – Slowly but surely, Sullivan County is straightening out the problems caused when the county admittedly rushed to get a Solid Waste User Fee schedule in place by the end of 2009. That resulted in a chorus of complaints, and a lot of erroneous bills sent out, which are being corrected. County Manager David Fanslau told the county legislature’s Planning, Environmental Management and Real Property Committee, Thursday, that they are processing the revisions, approved by the legislature in January, one list at a time. “The fire companies, ambulance squads, towns and villages and hopefully, for the veterans’ organizations, we are trying to go through a process to make sure we have all the section, block and lot sizes all identified.” Religious properties may provide some unique challenges. “That is not going to be as transparent”, said Fanslau. There will be an appeals process, but Fanslau said they believe they have minimized the likelihood of problems by adding clarity with their resolution of last month.
