| Housing group says governor’s budget cuts will “dismantle critical housing programs” |
|
POUGHKEEPSIE – If the governor’s proposed 2010-2011 state budget is approved as is, several programs fundamental to Hudson River Housing’s ability to provide supportive housing in Dutchess County will either be eliminated or severely cut, the Poughkeepsie-based agency said Wednesday. Patrice Kellett, director of support services for the organization, said the cuts would take their toll on programs to provide supportive housing for the homeless. “We are really concerned about what could happen,” she said. “We are already providing the housing at a limited rent so that they are able to support the rent. But, without the support services, many of them would not really be able to sustain that housing.” If cuts stand, Hudson River Housing stands to lose over $171,000 for the Supported Housing for Families and Youndf Adults program. It could lose another $38,000 for its single room occupancy program.
