Icy conditions force Minnewaska Park shut down

NEW PALTZ – The state has shut down Minnewaska State Park until further notice because of “dangerous, icy conditions.”  The rains of last week and the subsequent freezing temperatures have made for very dangerous and slipper conditions, said Park Manager Eric Humphrey.

This is the first time this winter that the preserve was closed because of the weather, but it has been closed in past seasons because of similar concerns, he said.

Humphrey said they will have to wait for either warmer weather to melt the ice or more snow to cover it and ease the slippery conditions.
