Two charged in separate credit card thefts

POUGHKEEPSIE – Two people were arrested in separate incidents involving thefts of credit card from TEG Federal Credit Union, Town of Poughkeepsie Police said Wednesday.

Vincent Luis Martinez, 17, of 80 Innis Avenue in Poughkeepsie was charged with forgery in the second degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree, both felonies, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

The arrest stems from an investigation that was reported on December 21, 2009 when a Town of Poughkeepsie resident reported that someone used his TEG Federal Credit Union credit card.

Martinez used the stolen card to purchase items totaling $219.95 at the Finish Line store at the Galleria in Poughkeepsie.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Police also arrested Briana Marlene Sweat, 21, of 186 Union Street in Poughkeepsie on charges of forgery in the second degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree, both felonies, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

A customer at TEG Federal Credit Union reported to police on January 19 that her debit card had unauthorized uses.

Police said Sweat used the card at the Piercing Pagoda, Yummy Bubble Tea, Inc. and Flaming Wok, racking up a total of $577.89 worth of charges.

She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
