| Obama budget includes Medicaid funding for Hudson Valley |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
WASHINGTON – President Obama’s proposed 2010-2011 federal budget would include millions in an additional funding for the Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAP) program to help out with funding Medicaid. Right now, federal stimulus money is aiding counties across New York and other states with direct added funding to offset the high cost of the program. Senator Charles Schumer said the extended program would send billions of dollars to county governments over the first six months of 2011. “It is an efficient way to funnel dollars to cash strapped county governments, and the way the formula works, New York does better than any other state. So, this is an area where New York is going to get a lot more back than it gives in,” Schumer said, Tuesday. If adopted, Hudson Valley counties would receive an additional $43 million for the FMAP program.
