Westchester’s health premium contribution bill goes back to committee

WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County Board of Legislators is not ready to vote on a resolution requiring certain members of county government to contribute 15 percent of their county health plan premium.

Majority Leader Thomas Abinanti said the feeling is there are too many unanswered questions.

“Several questions have been raised with respect to the breadth of it, the amount of money we would be able to save, and whether we should have some additional support before the board … backup material … before the board votes on this matter,” he said.

The resolution would pertain to “all non-represented/managerial employees and retirees under the jurisdiction of the county executive”, goes back to the Budget and Appropriations Committee.

In other business, the board unanimously adopted a resolution supporters said is simply in step with the times. Standing and special committees may allow voting participation by video conferencing, provided those voting members participating remotely do so after publicly announcing their intention, and allowing citizens so desiring, to be present at the remote location.
