Dutchess lawmaker continues her push for a sun tanning booth prohibition

POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Legislator Angela Flesland is continuing her effort to have a local law passed that would prohibit underage people from using sun tanning booths.

Some local lawmakers are concerned that the state may adopt its own prohibition in the not-too-distant future.

Flesland said there must be protections for young people.

“There are thousands of young women being diagnosed with melanoma and dying of skin cancer and it’s something that we have to address,” she said.

Flesland hopes to bring in tanning industry officials and physicians to discuss the issue with the county legislature.
