Gym teacher pleads guilty to sending indecent photo to young student

MONTICELLO – A former gym teacher at the Light and Life Christian School in Liberty Tuesday pled guilty in Sullivan County Court to sending text messages and a photograph of his genitals to a 13-year-old girl he knew at the school.

Joshua Dimeo, 21, of Liberty pled guilty to disseminating indecent materials to minors, a felony, and sexual abuse in the second degree, a misdemeanor.  He also admitted to touching another 13-year-old girl.

Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell said under the plea agreement, Dimeo is expected to receive a prison sentence of three years, 10 years parole and be ordered to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.

Sheriff's deputies made the arrest after receiving information developed by the Village of Liberty Police Department.

“When this was brought to life the police officers acted swiftly and professionally in investigating the charges and my office worked diligently to secure evidence through the use of a search warrant,” said Farrell.

Dimeo will be sentenced in November.
