Locals participate in “Showdown on Wall Street” march

NEW YORK – About 50 residents of Poughkeepsie and Newburgh, members of the anti-poverty and equal opportunity housing group Community Voices Heard were in New York City Thursday to participate in the National Peoples’ Action march and rally to protest what they call big bank greed and Wall Street activities.

Loretta Manning of Newburgh said they want their message to reach the nation’s capital.

“The hope is that President Obama hears and understands that we are trying to help ourselves and he preached about a change and this is the change, and we don’t want the cuts to happen and we want everyone to stand up and take notice,” she said.

Over 10,000 people participated in the march in Manhattan.
