America’s Treasures money could be coming to Bannerman Castle

FISHKILL – Back in January, US Senator Charles Schumer came to Fishkill to announce he would push for Save America’s Treasures funding for the crumbling Bannerman’s Castle in the Hudson River south of Beacon.  It would take millions to shore up and restore those portions of the walls that came crashing down in recent months.

Now, Bannerman’s Trust Director Neil Caplan said Schumer has requested $1 million for the project.

While the America’s Treasures money would help, Caplan said what is needed is a benefactor for the project.

“We need someone who can come in and give a large amount of money so that we can do a lot of work to do what we have to do on it,” he said. “We’re looking. It’s just that it’s hard to get, but once you find them, you’re set.”

Caplan said despite the collapse of the Castle walls, the Trust is going to resume public tours this spring.
