Three arrested for stolen handgun sale

VALATIE – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three individuals involved in the sale of a stolen handgun in Valatie. 

Investigators were looking into a Burglary reported on September 20th involving the theft of a Smith & Wesson 38 Caliber Revolver from a Valatie residence.  They developed information that the same handgun had possibly been used in a Home Invasion in Greene County.     

As the investigation progressed, three individuals were arrested at Tuesday morning, as they sold the handgun on New Street in Valatie.    

Uniformed members of the Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Team and Criminal Investigators arrested Keith W. Moulaison, 26, of Route 9 Kinderhook, Matthew E. Kelly, IV, 18, of Karen Court, Niverville and Christopher Alston, 27, of Richmond, VA.  The handgun gun was recovered at the time of the arrest. Moulaison and Kelly were charged with criminal sale of a firearm 3rd degree, a felony and conspiracy 5th degree, a class misdemeanor.  Alston was charged with conspiracy, a misdemeanor.  

Moulaison was held in lieu of $25,000.00 cash or $50,000.00 bail bond, Kelly was held in lieu of $15,000.00 cash or $30,000.00 bail bond and Alston was held on $2,500.00 cash or $5,000.00 bail bond.  Moulaison and Kelly will return to Village Court September 28th at 10:00am and Alston will return to court October 13th at 6:00pm.
