| Westchester to keep an eye on sex offenders during Halloween |
|
WHITE PLAINS – For the fourth year in a row, Westchester County government will round up about 160 registered and nonregistered sex offenders on probation and “invite” them to attend a special educational program in the county from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on October 31st. County Probation Director Rocco Pozzi said the program serves a dual purpose. “We remove people from the community so that they can’t reoffend or be enticed to do something, and at the same time, they are going through programming so they are dealing with issues around victimization – we have a group coming in to talk to them about what their actions can do and how victims feel about some of the issues that they have presented in the lives of the victims of sex offenders,” he said. “So, it serves a dual purpose. We got them out of the community; we made our communities, we think, a little bit safer, and at the same time, we are doing something constructive with them.” Those sex offenders who don’t show are paid a visit by a probation officer. |
