West Point jobs privatization plan appears dead

WASHINGTON – As area federal lawmakers keep the heat on the Army, a proposal to privatize jobs at West Point is apparently all but dead.

Congressman Maurice Hinchey, who secured House legislation killing the plan, heard from Army Secretary John McHugh that he intends for the Army to cancel its privatization efforts.

“Months of hard work paid off today as the Army finally moved toward abandoning a senseless plan to privatize hundreds of jobs at West Point,” Hinchey said. “More than 500 workers at West Point will soon be able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their jobs aren‘t about to be outsources to a private company in Georgia that would have either fired them or reduced their wages and benefits while keeping more profits for the company’s executives.”

Hinchey worked with Congressman John Hall to block the privatization.

McHugh also spoke with Senator Charles Schumer about the cancellation of the program.
