Limited seasonal flu vaccine available, Rockland officials say

NEW CITY – The Rockland County Department of Health, the Rockland County Office for the Aging, and several community agencies including Healthcare Medical Associates, Northern Services Group, Helen Hayes, Good Samaritan, and Nyack Hospitals have revised their seasonal flu vaccine clinic schedule due to the current limited supply of seasonal flu vaccine available.  The Seasonal flu vaccine does not protect against the H1N1 flu.

“Additional doses of the seasonal flu vaccine are expected in the end of October/early November.  It's important to keep in mind that it is still early in the season to get a seasonal flu vaccination, and  typically seasonal flu vaccination clinics are held in mid to late October and into November,” said Rockland Health Commissioner Dr. Joan Facelle.  Flu clinics will be rescheduled when more vaccine is received.

Rockland County Department of Health seasonal flu vaccine clinic is available free of charge to adults 60 years and older. Patients with Medicare and Medicaid must bring their cards. Individuals 9 through 59 years of age can receive the vaccine, but will be charged a $25 fee. Each patient must bring proof of Rockland County residency such as a driver’s license. In addition, the pneumococcal vaccine will be available at this clinic only to Medicare recipients who are not with an HMO. For more information, please call (845) 364-2633.
