| Lottery winnings to help college student achieve his educational dream |
|
MONSEY – Jemps St. Fleur came to the United States from Haiti seven years ago with dreams of enrolling in the nursing program at Rockland Community College. He can now do that and more thanks to a winning $3 million New York Lottery “Monet” game ticket. St. Fleur now wants to use his winnings to achieve a master’s degree in nursing with the ultimate goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. The Monsey resident said the money “is the boost I needed to get me where I want to go and to help other people along the way.” St. Fleur plans to continue volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern and will look for other opportunities to share his wealth and talents as a health care professional in training. For the past year, St. Fleur and his uncle have been buying tickets. When they realized they had a winner, his uncle agreed that he should claim the ticket. St. Fleur will be awarded 20 annual payments of $150,000 each, netting him $99,045 a year after taxes through 2028. |
