Liberty man goes to prison for having sex with 14-year-old girl

MONTICELLO – A Liberty man was sentenced in Sullivan County Court Tuesday to five to 10 years in state prison for two counts of rape in the second degree.

Juan Medina, 57, admitted to having sex with a 14-year-old girl on two occasions, once in the Town of Thompson and the other in the Village of Monticello in the fall of 2007 and 2008. The girl knew Medina.

Chief Assistant District Attorney and DA-elect James Farrell credited the combined efforts of the Village of Liberty Police and the Family violence Response Team for investigating the case.

Judge Burton Ledina also issued a permanent order of protection for the victim and Medina will be required to register as a sex offender under Meghan’s Law when he is released from prison.
