Long Island man accused of swindling Rockland doctor in mortgage refinancing scheme

NEW CITY – An East Patchogue man has been arrested and charged with bilking a New York physician out of thousands of dollars in a home mortgage scam.  Christopher Gagg, 33, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony.

An investigation by the Rockland County DA’s Special Investigations Unit revealed the victim was approached by Gagg with an offer to refinance his home through Gagg.

After agreeing to refinance, the doctor wired over $8,000 to Gagg for what the doctor believed were fees associated with the mortgage transaction.

It turns out that Gagg was not a licensed broker and didn’t work for a mortgage broker. No mortgage application was made and Gagg simply kept the victim’s money, said DA Thomas Zugibe.

Gagg was arrested Monday, arraigned and released on $1,300 bail.
