Two arrested as illegal immigrants

BREWSTER – A Danbury, CT man, who was stopped for DWI on Route 6 in the Town of Southeast early Saturday morning, was determined to be in the country from Ecuador illegally.

Edison Macancala, 24, was arraigned and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. ICE was contacted and a detainer was expected to be placed on him.

About an hour later, troopers stopped a vehicle on Sodom Road in the Town of Southeast for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The driver, Manuel Sarmiento-Reinoso, 26, of Danbury, CT, was intoxicated.

Police ran his fingerprints and found he had been deported back to Guatemala in 2004. He was arraigned and remanded to the Putnam County jail in lieu of  $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.

State Police said ICE was expected to place a retainer on him.
