Ball drops out of House race, targets Leibell’s Senate seat

CARMEL – Republican Congressional candidate Nan Hayworth will apparently have smooth sailing in her challenge against Democratic Representative John Hall next year.

Assemblyman Gregory Ball, who had been seeking the GOP line to run against Hall, pulled out of that race suddenly and announced instead he would challenge long time New York Senator Vincent Leibell for his 40th District seat next fall.

Both Leibell and Ball are Republicans, setting the stage for a GOP primary election next September.

As a member of the Republican minority in the Assembly, Ball said he has had to fight “against the backroom deals, the systemic corruption and the infamous dysfunction that is costing New Yorkers billions and forcing small businesses out of this state.”

Ball said he wants to be part of the “huge opportunity to reclaim the state.”
