4H Club treasurer charged with stealing from group

Arata

SALT POINT – The former treasurer of the 4H Gentle Giants club in Rhinebeck has been charged with stealing over $7,000 from the organization when he was treasurer in 2008.

State Police at Salt Point Friday said Timothy Arata, 40, of Rhinebeck, was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny.

It is alleged that he placed the money into his private account, police said.

Police investigated after they were contacted by Cornell Cooperative Extension, which oversees the program.

Arata was arraigned in Town of Washington Court and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
