Two charged with trying to break into Liberty home

LIBERTY – Two men are under arrest and charged with trying to break into a home in the Village of Liberty. They were confronted by the homeowner and fled the scene in a vehicle.

The vehicle was stopped on Route 17 eastbound near exit 104 by State Police.

Derrick Fields, Jr. 18, of Middletown and Lyndell Humphrey, a state parolee from Monticello, who is presently in the Sullivan County Jail without bail stemming from charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree.

It is alleged the men attempted to break into the home on November 14.

Fields was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail. Village Police said Humphrey will be charged later due to his incarceration.
